Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026
The short version: ReadNook stores everything on your own device. We do not collect your data, track your reading, or send your articles anywhere. The only external contact is a license key check with our payment provider when you activate Pro.

1 Data Storage

All saved articles, your reading library, preferences (font, theme, text size), and Pro license status are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's built-in IndexedDB storage.

This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to any external server.

Your reading list is yours. It lives on your machine and nowhere else.

2 License Validation

If you purchase ReadNook Pro, your license key is sent to api.polar.sh solely to verify its validity at the time of activation, and again roughly every 7 days afterward to confirm it's still valid.

No personally identifiable information, browsing history, article content, or reading behavior is included in this request. This is the only external network call the extension makes.

3 Pocket Import

If you import your Pocket library, the file you upload (CSV or ZIP) is processed entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded to any server, including ours.

Once imported, your articles are stored locally the same as anything you save directly through ReadNook.

4 Text-to-Speech

ReadNook's read-aloud feature uses your browser's built-in text-to-speech engine. No audio or article text is sent to any external service to generate speech.

5 Permissions

ReadNook requests the following Chrome permissions and uses them only as described:

  • activeTab — reads the current page only when you explicitly click Save, never automatically
  • scripting — extracts article content from the active tab on your direct action
  • contextMenus — adds a right-click option to save pages and links

Your article library and preferences are saved using IndexedDB, a standard browser storage feature that doesn't require a Chrome permission. ReadNook's content security policy also allows it to connect to api.polar.sh, used only to validate Pro license keys.

6 No Tracking

ReadNook does not use analytics, advertising networks, crash reporting services, or any form of user tracking. We do not know how many articles you save, what you read, or how often you use the extension.

7 Third Parties

The only third-party service ReadNook interacts with is Polar.sh, our payment and licensing provider, contacted only during Pro license validation. Polar's own privacy policy applies to that interaction.

No other third-party services, SDKs, or analytics tools are included in the extension.

8 Children's Privacy

ReadNook does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. The extension collects no personal data from any user regardless of age.
